Job Summary
The role involves supporting the operating room team in the care of surgical patients by performing delegated activities.
Essential Functions
- Prepare and deliver medical/surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures under supervision.
- Clean, package, and process surgical equipment and instrumentation, and maintain inventory and storage of supplies.
- Manage multiple computer applications for sterilization tracking and processes.
- Operate and troubleshoot power equipment for instrument processing, including autoclaves, washer disinfectors, and ultrasonic cleaners.
Required Skills & Experience
- Adaptability to unpredictable situations within the perioperative setting.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people in a direct, empathetic, and articulate manner.
- Demonstrated patient-centered and customer-focused communication skills.
- Frequent lifting and carrying of 25 pounds or more, with occasional work above shoulder level.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Two years of experience in handling and sterilization processing of surgical/medical/dental instrumentation within the past four years, or a vocational certificate as Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant within the last two years.
- Alternatively, two years of experience as a Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant in an acute care setting within the last five years.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
Education
High School diploma or GED is required.
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) Certification as a Central Processing Technician (CRCST) within 18 months of hire.
- Must be 18 years of age prior to start date.
Preferred Certifications & Licensure
- Vocational certificate as Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant within the last two years.
- Two years of experience in handling and sterilization processing of surgical/medical/dental instrumentation within the past four years.
- At least two years of experience as a Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant in an acute care setting within the last five years.
