Job Summary
Responsible for performing delegated activities to support the operating room team in the care of the surgical patient.
Essential Functions
- Prepare and deliver medical/surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures under supervision.
- Clean, package, and process surgical equipment and instrumentation, maintaining inventory and storage of supplies.
- Manage multiple computer applications to assist with sterilization tracking and processes.
- Operate and troubleshoot power equipment to process instruments, such as autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners.

Required Skills & Experience
- Adaptability to unpredictable situations within the perioperative setting.
- Proven ability to communicate directly, empathetically, and articulately with a variety of people.
- Demonstrated patient-centered and customer-focused communication skills.
- Frequent lifting/carrying of 25 pounds or more, with occasional work above shoulder level.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Two years of experience in handling and sterilization processing of surgical/medical/dental instrumentation within the past four years, or a vocational certificate as Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant within the last two years.
- Alternatively, two years of experience as a Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant in an acute care setting within the last five years.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
Education
Required Education
- High School diploma or GED.
Certifications & Licensure
Required
- Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) Certification as a Central Processing Technician (CRCST) within 18 months of hire.
- Must be 18 years of age prior to start date.
- CBSPD or CRCST certification.
- BLS certification.
Preferred
- Vocational certificate as Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant within the last two years.
- Two years of experience in handling and sterilization processing of surgical/medical/dental instrumentation within the past four years.
- At least two years of experience as a Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant in an acute care setting within the last five years.
