Position: Sterile Processing Technician

Shift: Evening Shift | 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
Schedule: 5x8 | 40 Hours/Week | Weekends as Needed | No Holidays | No On-Call | No Float
Pay Range: $28-$32/hr.

Additional Information

  • Every other weekend required.
  • Must work three (3) out of six (6) holidays.
  • Must work rotating schedules/shifts based on department needs.

Required Experience

Required

  • 5+ years of Sterile Processing experience.
  • Central Processing Course or 1 year of instrument processing experience.
  • Experience processing surgical instrumentation and patient care equipment.

Education

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required Certifications & Licensure

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or
  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CBSPD).

Required Skills

Job Summary

The Central Supply Technician is responsible for the cleaning, processing, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation, patient care equipment, and reusable medical/surgical items. This position also functions as a Case Cart Attendant for the Operating Room.

Job Responsibilities

  • Receive, sort, process, assemble, and sterilize patient care equipment and surgical instruments according to departmental policies.
  • Understand all detergents and disinfectants used to process items.
  • Implement Universal Precautions and proper use of PPE.
  • Operate and load Steam, ETO, Sterrad, and Steris sterilizers.
  • Perform, incubate, read, and record biological tests and Bowie Dick tests.
  • Complete sterilization records by documenting all processed items, using the correct label/load gun, interpreting chemical integrators, and verifying computerized printouts.
  • Adhere to the correct use of computerized instrument count sheets.
  • Prepare Operating Room case carts using physician preference cards to assemble required instruments, drugs, and special equipment.
  • Notify the nursing team of missing items, communicate supply and equipment shortages with the coordinator, and complete the daily checklist.
  • Lift a minimum of 50 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 60 lbs., and stand for the duration of the shift.
  • Adhere to the standards identified in the Client's Organizational Competencies.
