We are seeking a dedicated Sterile Processing Technician I to support our surgical center. In this role, you will independently perform core sterile processing functions to ensure the highest-quality care and safety. You will be responsible for the decontamination, preparation, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment utilizing strict infection control practices in a fast-paced environment.
Core Responsibilities
  • Decontamination & Cleaning: Decontaminate medical equipment and instruments using correct automated machinery, specialized cleaning agents, and strict standard precautions.
  • Preparation & Sterilization: Inspect instruments for cleanliness and functionality, assemble/wrap precision sets, and accurately operate sterilizers according to OSHA, CDC, and AORN standards.
  • Logistics & Quality Control: Perform and document biological monitoring tests, maintain flawless quality logs, and coordinate with Materials Management to maintain PAR levels.
  • Departmental Collaboration: Communicate with OR staff and medical vendors to provide instrument sets on schedule, and serve as a technical sterilization resource for nursing teams.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Experience: Prior experience in central sterile processing or hospital materials management functions preferred.
  • Certification: Must obtain Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) designation within 18 months of hire.
  • Language: Language fluency for effective verbal and written communication in American English.
Physical & Mental Demands
  • Stamina & Mobility: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (at least 5 hours per day) and move quickly to respond to clinical needs.
  • Strength & Range: Ability to lift, push, pull, or otherwise exert force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and up to 20 lbs. frequently; perform occasional overhead reaching, bending, and kneeling.
  • Sensory Acuity: High-level visual and auditory acuity required for inspecting instruments and ensuring safe, timely response.
  • Work Environment & Hazards: Operates in a surgical processing environment with routine, potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious waste, medical disinfectants, and radiation. Mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including gowns, masks, safety glasses, and gloves is required.
Compensation: $20.26 - $29.06 per hour
