Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

Decontaminates, cleans, sterilizes and distributes supplies from the surgery department, and throughout hospital.

Essential Duties:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Team members may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

  • Reprocesses multiple use items from the surgical department and throughout the hospital. Including but not limited to decontamination, inspection, testing, assembly, packaging and sterilization.
  • Retrieves, reprocesses, and distributes multiple use items from all patient care areas.
  • Accurately and consistently documents sterilizer loads, parameters, biological tests, and other necessary items.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Maintains accurate level of supplies and equipment at all times.
  • Maintains knowledge of current sterilization standards.
  • Take immediate action when failures are recognized.

Job Requirements

Work Experience • Previous experience in Sterile Processing, preferred. Education • High School Diploma or GED • Completion of sterile processing training program within 6 months of hire or transfer Specialized Knowledge and Skills • Interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with other team members, patients and families. • Basic computer skills to include word processing, databases, EMR, and e-mail.
