About the Role
CLFC Healthcare & Communications is seeking experienced Sterile Processing Technicians for a DoD healthcare facility at William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) in Fort Bliss, TX. WBAMC is the Department of Defense's only Level I Trauma Center, serving 2.8 million TRICARE beneficiaries across a 22-county service area with 28 operating rooms and comprehensive surgical services.
As a Sterile Processing Technician, you will be responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution of reusable medical devices and surgical instruments supporting WBAMC's high-volume surgical operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and sterilize reusable medical devices and surgical instrument sets per manufacturer IFU and AAMI/ANSI standards
- Operate steam sterilizers, low-temperature sterilization systems (STERRAD, V-PRO), and ultrasonic cleaners
- Perform biological and chemical indicator testing to verify sterilization efficacy
- Maintain accurate instrument tracking records using automated tracking systems
- Coordinate with OR staff to ensure timely delivery of sterile instrument trays for scheduled and emergency surgical cases
- Comply with Joint Commission, AAMI, OSHA, and DoD infection control standards
- Participate in quality assurance audits and process improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through HSPA/IAHCSMM or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) through CBSPD
- Minimum 1 year of sterile processing experience in an acute care hospital setting
- Knowledge of AAMI standards, sterilization methods, and instrument identification
- Ability to pass a DoD background investigation and obtain facility access credentials
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a Level I Trauma Center or military medical facility
- Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) certification
- Experience with automated instrument tracking systems (SPM, Censis)
- Familiarity with DoD/DHA infection prevention protocols
