Job Title: Sterile Processing Manager

Location: Modesto, CA
Duration: 13 Weeks
Schedule: 5x8-Hour Schedule (Shift is flexible and may vary based on departmental needs)

Compensation

  • Local Candidates: $38 - $41 per hour
  • Traveler Candidates: $45 - $49 per hour

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Manager to oversee the daily operations of a high-volume Sterile Processing Department. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring the availability of sterile instruments and equipment, maintaining regulatory compliance, optimizing departmental performance, and fostering a positive and accountable team culture across multiple shifts.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive sterile processing experience, and a commitment to quality, efficiency, and patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all Sterile Processing Department operations across multiple shifts.
  • Ensure timely processing, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment.
  • Maintain reliable instrument availability to support procedural and surgical schedules.
  • Lead, mentor, and support supervisors and technicians to promote accountability and operational excellence.
  • Monitor departmental productivity, quality metrics, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, infection prevention, and sterilization standards.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and department records.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to enhance workflow efficiency and service quality.
  • Conduct staff training, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate with perioperative services, clinical departments, and leadership teams to support patient care operations.
  • Foster a professional, respectful, and team-oriented work environment that promotes employee engagement and retention.
  • Assist with budgeting, inventory management, equipment maintenance, and resource planning.

Required Qualifications

Education & Certifications

  • CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) certification required.
  • CHL (Certified Healthcare Leader) or CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist) certification preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of sterile processing experience required.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership or management experience with responsibility for multiple shifts required.
  • Experience managing sterile processing operations in a hospital or surgical services environment preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of sterilization techniques, instrument processing, and infection prevention standards.
  • Understanding of AAMI, Joint Commission, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency with documentation systems, inventory management, and performance reporting.
