Essential Functions:

  • Maintains an accurate up-to-date inventory of all endoscopes, rotation of disinfecting, repair log invoices, leak testing, log tapes, etc..
  • Troubleshoots and performs preventative maintenance inspections regarding proper functioning of endoscopes as per proper guidelines and procedures.
  • Arranges for repair scopes to go out/loaner EUS scopes to be delivered ASAP (Olympus).
  • Maintains an accurate record of repair invoice history and fiscal budgeting monthly.
  • Collaborates between Nurse Managers/Supervisors of other departments (pulmonary and Central Sterile Supply) to process after-hour scope availability and any workflow issues.
  • Operates, troubleshoots and maintains automatic endoscope reprocessing machines per manufacturer IFU regarding proper machine maintenance.
  • Performs biological monitoring and chemical tests according to manufacturers'/ state / federal guidelines.
  • Collaborates with outside reps/vendors and Nurse Manager to promote efficient unit operations.
  • Reviews the daily procedure schedule with other endoscope techs, GI techs, and nurses ensuring scope availability and turn-around time.
  • Recognized as unit expert in all aspects of scope / equipment HLD. Collaborates with CSP Leadership to develop and maintain unit based training records for staff in all aspects of HLD and safe scope handling.
  • Orders job specific supplies, as needed, through vendors (internal and external means).
  • Educated on current specifications and best practice/EBP recommendations for scope processing and handling. Reviews unit practices on a yearly basis with the Nurse Manager and scope manufacture representative.
  • Coordinates yearly review of all GI policies regarding HLD disinfection and schedules on site review by scope manufacturer of unit policy and practices.
  • Under the direction of CSP Leadership assess scope repairs and helps identify needs for capital equipment purchases and scope fleet upgrades.

Common Expectations:

  • Assists nurses and techs with service-specific scopes zoned for certain circumstances.
  • Maintain established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, and environmental and infection control.
  • Update/revise Infection Control Policy annually
  • Mentors and orients Level I and Level II Endoscope Techs to endoscope equipment education and standard department practices
  • Maintains and officiates competency book recording scope cleaning verification for ALL nursing, staff and techs
  • Provides outstanding service to ALL patients; fosters teamwork; and provides fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation
  • Floats to all work areas of the CSP Department as needed
  • Perform all the duties of a Level I or Level II Equipment Technician.
