Steel Fabrication Operations Lead

A day in the life

At 2:00 PM, you walk the shop floor and check in with team leads. You confirm materials are staged, machines are set, and your tier meeting cues up the plan for the shift. You redirect resources based on real-time needs, coach operators, and keep production moving safely and on schedule. When challenges pop up—quality concerns, bottlenecks, staffing—you solve them hands-on, keeping safety, quality, delivery, cost, and morale front and center. By 10:20 PM, you’ve met the plan, reduced scrap, and teed up a clean, organized start for the next shift.

What you will lead

  • Supervise, plan, and coordinate all production operations on your assigned shift to hit schedule, quality, and cost targets while maximizing efficiency.
  • Ensure material and workflow move smoothly; verify proper use and care of equipment; uphold sound production methods.
  • Organize and assign work to leverage each employee’s strengths for optimal performance and on-time throughput.
  • Drive plant-wide productivity via employee training, Lean practices, and support for Stow system goals and objectives.
  • Lead training and tier meetings to keep communication clear and continuous.
  • Evaluate performance; coach, counsel, and develop team members to sustain safe, efficient work.
  • Relentlessly reduce scrap to lower costs and prevent sub-standard shipments.
  • Champion a safe, clean, organized workplace by implementing and supporting 5S and OPEX initiatives.
  • Maintain conformance with company policies, work rules, and regulations, including coaching and disciplinary action as needed.
  • Directly oversee a team of 30+ employees on the plant floor.
