Since 1970, Rasmussen Mechanical Services has been a family-owned mechanical contractor working across the Midwest and Rocky Mountains. We've grown to over 200 people across seven locations, but we've kept the small-shop feeling that's made people stay with us for 20, 30, even 37 years.

We're hiring steamfitters / pipefitters for our mechanical construction team fitters with a few years under their belt who are ready to run real work on real projects.

The Work

You'll lay out, fabricate, assemble, and install piping and piping systems for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial process applications. Mix of shop fabrication and field install on commercial, institutional, and industrial projects.

A typical week could put you on:

  • Reading isos and prints, selecting pipe and fittings, and laying out the run
  • Joining pipe by threading, soldering, brazing, and welding
  • Securing pipe with hangers, clamps, and supports
  • Pressure testing systems and tracking down leaks
  • Fabricating new or replacement components in the shop
  • Working alongside other fitters, welders, and field crews to get the job done right

The work is mostly construction and install not service rotation though scheduled and emergency service does come up. Out-of-town work, weekends, and after-hours mobilization happen occasionally, with paid overtime when they do.

Normal hours: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with overtime as the work demands.

Why Fitters Stay at RMS

  • Family-owned, and it shows. The Rasmussens are still here. The office knows the field. Foremen who run a clean job get backed up, not second-guessed.
  • Real work, real variety. With ten specialized departments under one roof — mechanical construction, HVAC, boilers, controls, reliability, and more — no two projects look alike.
  • Career path if you want one. Foreman, general foreman, superintendent, project manager — most of the people in those roles started in the field.
  • Industry-leading pay and benefits, paid overtime, and a culture that takes care of its people.
  • A genuinely good place to work. Fun is one of our core values.

What You Bring

  • 3-7 years of pipefitting / steamfitting experience
  • Comfortable laying out and running a job from prints and isos
  • Skilled with welding, cutting (torching), threading, and the standard electric and pneumatic tools of the trade
  • Welding certifications a plus (6G, GTAW, SMAW, stainless / process piping experience all welcome)
  • HS diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license; able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Willing to work occasional out-of-town jobs, weekends, and after-hours emergency mobilizations (with advance notice when possible)

Working Conditions

This is real fit work. You'll be on your feet, lifting 50 lbs regularly and 75-80 lbs occasionally, working in confined spaces, overhead on scaffolds, and doing plenty of stooping, bending, squatting, crawling, and kneeling. Standard PPE required and provided where applicable.
