Job Summary

Under direct supervision from Steam & Power V, IV, and III, perform skilled labor in the operation, maintenance and repair of high-pressure steam boilers and mechanical equipment in the Heating Plant.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$28.15 per hour See note in special instructions to applicant section

Required Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.

  2. Valid driver's license.

  3. A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Skill in the use of various tools (hammer, pliers, screwdriver)

  2. Ability to read 2" gauges on various equipment.

  3. Possess mathematical skills to calculate material lists and pricing.

Work Hours

7:00 am - 3:00 pm, days off to be determined

Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

  1. Ability to lift 100 pounds.

  2. Ability to push/pull up to 100 pounds.

  3. Ability to climb, bend, crouch, kneel, and reach overhead.

  4. Visual acuity to discern basic wiring and piping color codes.

  5. Work in confined spaces.

  6. Work in both hot and cold environments.

  7. Ability to speak and hear clearly.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
