Staff Engineer Position

Description The Staff Engineer will work on a variety of 13.2kV to 500kV underground utility transmission and distribution projects. The Lead Engineer will work with a project team to implement effective and creative solutions for the grid according to budget constraints, design factors, and client needs. This position will require interfacing with utility clients and collaborating with multiple offices.

Lead Design Teams Lead design teams of 2 to 10 engineers and designers and work closely with construction, procurement, and permitting teams to execute underground transmission and distribution construction projects.

Business Development Work closely with local and national leadership to develop new clients and continue building relationships with existing clients. Support business development efforts with new clients across North America.

Thought Leadership Support thought leadership including conference attendance, marketing, and other internal initiatives.

Preparation of Construction Packages Prepare and develop distribution and transmission voltage construction packages for underground projects including manhole and equipment installation, conduit and duct bank design, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design.

Routing Analysis Develop routing analysis for the design of low to high-voltage distribution and transmission lines using CADD/GIS design and mapping software.

Construction Feasibility Determine construction feasibility through route studies, conflict analysis, and construction cost estimating.

Field Inspections Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for overhead and underground electric facilities on public and private utility systems.

Simulation Software Leverage commercially available simulation software and other tools to evaluate different scenarios and make informed recommendations to the client.

Reporting and Visualization Produce reports and visualizations to communicate technical results and interpretation of trends effectively communicate findings and recommendations to all areas of the business.

Project Management Work closely with the project team to ensure deliverables and services are being provided to the clients satisfaction. Work closely with the project team to ensure that projects are following internal QA/QC guidelines.

QA/QC Reviews Perform QA/QC reviews of studies, reports, and construction design packages.

Calculations and Equipment Specifications Prepare calculations and assist with equipment specifications such as cable pulling calculations, voltage drop, and pole loading.

Proposal Preparation Prepare proposals, engineering project cost estimates, and execution schedules.

Leadership Guidance Provide leadership guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members.

Client and Subcontractor Communication Regularly meet and correspond with clients, subcontractors, or outside personnel.

Other Duties Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • A Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and 3 years of transmission engineering experience required. Consulting preferred.
  • A Bachelors Degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 3 years of transmission engineering experience required. Consulting preferred.
  • A Masters Degree in Civil Engineering and 2 years of transmission engineering experience required. Consulting preferred.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge in standard civil/structural engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM, Revit, Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD, and/or hydraulic/hydrologic/pavement/transmission analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.

Compensation

The expected compensation range for this position is $105,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
