Registered Nurse RN Job Summary As the Emergency Department Registered Nurse RN, you will be a vital member of a dynamic team responsible for diagnosing responses to actual or potential health problems and for providing basic emergent supportive and restorative care through use of the nursing process. Our nursing model is relationship-based, which allows for a stronger connection between the patient and caregiver and a more individualized, appropriate type of care. Registered Nurse RN Job Responsibilities Accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients in our Emergency Department.

• Assesses the health status of patients and families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination. • Initiates selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations. • Interprets findings and alters the plan of care according to collaborative practice agreement and protocols in designated areas. • Educates and counsels in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses. • Documents findings and plan of care in the patients medical record. • Consults with physicians per established Day Kimball Hospital policy. • Intervenes to provide a safe environment and evaluates the effectiveness of intervention for patients.

Registered Nurse RN Education and Experience Requirements Graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required. Registered Nurse RN license issued by the state of Connecticut is required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent is required if not currently certified; must obtain within three months of employment. Additional specialty certification or training as required by the work area.

Registered Nurse RN Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to recognize unsafe and life-threatening situations and how to intervene appropriately. Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, effective communication, organizational skills, problem-solving, and ability to make appropriate independent decisions. Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice. Demonstrated compassionate customer service and ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and healthcare colleagues. Solid foundation in evaluating plans of care and reformulating as necessary.
