Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department (ED)
Part Time Night Shift (24 Hours | 7:00pm - 7:00am) - Putnam, CT
Day Kimball Health is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Emergency Department in Putnam, CT. This role provides emergent, high-acuity care for patients presenting with undifferentiated and potentially life-threatening conditions requiring rapid assessment, stabilization, and intervention. This position includes a one-time sign-on bonus of up to $25,000 (not part of base pay).
Clinical Overview The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for diagnosing responses to actual or potential health problems and providing basic emergent, supportive, and restorative care through use of the nursing process. Our nursing model is relationship-based, supporting individualized patient-centered care while operating in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment requiring strong clinical judgment, prioritization, and rapid decision-making.
Job Responsibilities Accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients in our Emergency Department
Assesses the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination
Initiates selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examination, interprets findings, and alters plan of care according to collaborative practice agreement and protocols in designated area
Educates and counsels in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses
Documents findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record
Consults with physician per established Day Kimball Hospital policy
Intervenes to provide a safe environment and evaluates effectiveness of intervention for patients
Education and Experience Requirements Graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required
Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of Connecticut is required
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent is required; if not currently certified, must obtain within three (3) months of employment
Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to recognize unsafe and life-threatening situations and how to intervene appropriately
Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, effective communication, organizational skills, problem solving, and ability to make appropriate independent decisions
Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice
Demonstrated compassionate customer service and ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues
Solid foundation in evaluating plans of care and reformulating as necessary
