Job Summary

This job opening is for a Unit-Based Temporary RN position in the Cardiovascular Adult Intermediate Care Unit.

  • Please note that these positions do not qualify for UMHS benefits and specific terms and conditions of employment are negotiated at the department level.

These positions are not covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U of M Professional Nurse Council.

  • In addition:

Unit- based temporary employees who have worked 400 hours in a calendar year then become a

Per Diem employee and have an obligation to pay dues or service fees as covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U of M Professional Nurse Council.

  • Once the employee meets the 400 hour threshold, they then are a union member for the duration of employment as Per Diem.

Temporary APRN employees and MVC temporary employees are not eligible for Per Diem status.

Responsibilities*

The Cardiovascular ICU (CVC 5) is a 10-bed adult intensive care unit caring for patients who have recently undergone cardiac, thoracic, or vascular surgery. This unit specializes in coronary artery bypass, heart and lung transplantation, heart valve repair, ventricular assist devices and esophageal procedures as well as carotid re-vascularization and aneurysm repairs. Staff members collaborate with the Advanced Practice Team and are involved with patient/family conferences, patient care rounds, and referrals. Perform Charge nurse responsibilities as assigned. Assist in research studies and quality assurance activities.

Required Qualifications*

Current license to practice nursing in the state of Michigan.

2 years of current ICU or ED RN experience

Desired Qualifications*

BSN preferred

2 years of cardio-vascular patient experience or relevant skills, including at least one of the following: Cath Lab, Cardiac Medicine, Vascular Surgery/Medicine, Telemetry.

Adaptability to change

Demonstrates time management skills

Experience with arterial lines

Titrating hemodynamic medications

EPIC documentation experience

Demonstrates the ability to prioritize a plan of care for the patient

Accepts responsibility for errors, admitting mistakes

Offers open feedback to all

Work Schedule

Shift: Day/ Night

Hours: Minimum 36 hours per Schedule

Location: Cardiovascular Center- CVC 5 Intensive Care Unit
