NURSING SUMMARY/ PURPOSE OF POSITION The Aultman Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional nurse that provides direct, primary nursing care to patients/residents. The RN delegates and coordinates patient care, based upon a documented assessment of the patients/residents needs. The RN supervises the care provided by individuals such as licensed practical nurses, patient care technicians/state tested nursing assistants/nurse aides, medical assistants, and etc., if applicable. QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Current, active licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing. Maintain current, active BLS ACLS certification through the American Heart Association. PALS certification is required within three months of hire. 2 years critical care experience and/or PACU experience. Certification preferred for RNs meeting applicable certification eligibility requirements. Membership in professional nursing organization preferred. Analyzes the assessment data to determine diagnosis or issue. Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation. Develops a plan that prescribes strategies and alternatives to attain expected/desired outcomes. Implements the identified plan, coordinates care delivery and employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment. Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes. Systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. Attains knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice. Evaluates own nursing practice in relation to professional standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules and regulations. Integrates ethical provisions in all areas of practice. Ensures safe care of the surgical patient per department and hospital policies. Accurately performs patient assessment and medication reconciliation. Accurately identifies and implements patient isolation, as needed. Assists other surgical personnel in the care of the surgical patient, as needed. Communicates problems/concerns with charge nurse, assistant manager, unit director, physicians and department to facilitate daily schedule. Accurate use of the OmniCell/med dispensing units. Transcribes, observes and administers physician orders. Initiates, administers, and maintains appropriate IV therapy per hospital policy. Obtains lab, EKG and radiology reports; notifies appropriate personnel of results, if indicated Documents in complete, concise manner using computer or paper documentation, as applicable. Provides accurate patient hand-off report. Participates in patient discharge planning/teaching. Competent in checking, care, use and documentation of unit equipment, per hospital policy. Assists with orientation/education of new/existing staff and students. Able to access and enter data into computer system, including order entry. Serve on committees as assigned by Director, as needed. Active in nursing projects, as needed. Responsible for checking email and completion of education via online learning (LMS) Other duties as assigned. Skills Proficient computer skills to complete tasks as required. Shifts are scheduled or changed due to the staffing needs of the unit/department based upon volume and acuity, with 24 hour coverage. This unit requires 24/7 coverage. Shifts are variable to volume of department. Rotation as needed. Work weekends and holidays as assigned. Every other weekend and two holidaysa year, in a group rotation. Lunch periods and breaks are coordinated with other staff members to maintainadequate floor coverage. On call coverage is assigned to cover the department schedule.
