Position Overview
Inseego is seeking a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer to work onsite in San Diego, CA. This role supports the design, testing, and documentation of best-in-class, high-volume wireless mobile and fixed communication products from concept through production. The individual will lead mechanical design efforts for plastic sheet metal, die-cast, and rubber components, delivering manufacturable, IP67-compliant solutions using advanced CAD simulation and prototyping techniques.
Working hands-on in a fast-paced environment, the role requires independent project planning, close collaboration with vendors and cross-functional teams, and clear communication of design tradeoffs and proposals. The position also involves thorough technical documentation, analysis of design and test data, and contribution to thermal, EMIESD, and other performance evaluations as needed.
Responsibilities
• Design plastic sheet metal, die-cast, and rubber parts for indoor and outdoor wireless consumer products. • Demonstrated ability to prototype, design, and develop products that are successfully manufactured in high volume and are IP67 waterproof-compliant. • In-depth knowledge of Creo/Pro ENGINEER software, demonstrated skills in creating complex surfaces and parts assemblies, and 2D drawings. • Work hands-on in a fast-paced environment, able to deal with ambiguity, uncertainty, and a willingness to try new, challenging things. • Maintain relationships with vendors and initiate part orders for prototypes. • Independently plan, manage, and prioritize tasks, projects, tracks progress toward overall goals, and provides periodic updates to management. • Thoroughly document all aspects of the design via detailed mechanical part drawings. • Compiles and evaluates design and test data, prepares technical specifications, analyzes technical data to determine specifications. • Additional tasks may include empirical thermal ESD and EMI analysis and product label design. • Ability to effectively communicate design proposals and negotiate options.
Required Qualifications
• Requires a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and a minimum of 7 years of experience in the fields of Product Design and/or mechanical engineering in high-end consumer electronics or a similar consumer-oriented field. • Must have at least 7 years of experience with plastic injection, sheet metal, and die-cast part design. • Must have at least 7 years of experience with Creo/Pro ENGINEER 3D CAD and Windchill PLM. • Must have at least 7 years of experience with thermal simulation software Flotherm, preferred. • Must have at least 7 years of experience with FEA software CreoMechanic, preferred. • Experience in mobile device battery cell packaging and touch screen structure preferred. • Understanding of tolerance analysis RSS. • Good written and communication skills to work with internal development teams, vendors, and Contract Manufacturers, both foreign and domestic. • Some international travel is required.
Salary Range: $117,000-$150,000 This base pay range will vary depending on experience, qualifications, and location. Your recruiter will be happy to discuss all that Inseego has to offer.
