We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Staff Manufacturing Engineer to play a critical role in the development and implementation of our innovative battery manufacturing strategies, specifically within pack assembly, from initial concept through full-scale production. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of our battery platforms, contributing to prototype development, validation builds, and the establishment of robust manufacturing systems for pack assembly. This highly cross-functional role requires exemplary communication skills and the ability to effectively balance product design and manufacturing system objectives to ensure successful and scalable production of battery packs. Reporting directly to the Manufacturing Manager of Pack High Voltage Configuration & Automation, you will leverage your technical expertise to drive key projects and provide technical leadership within the team.ResponsibilitiesLead battery pack assembly line equipment, automation and process projects from initial concept to full scale production. Accountable/responsible for successful project execution measured in terms of cost, safety, performance and delivery scheduleCombine innovative mechanical and controls techniques to establish new methods of assembling and testing high voltage battery assemblies.Ensure equipment and process compliance with applicable standards, policies, acts, regulations and codesDevelop equipment and process specifications, assess vendor capabilities and make sourcing recommendations based on dataProvide in depth design for manufacture (DFM) feedback to the Product Engineering team to ensure that our assembly processes are cost efficient, robust and deliver high quality resultsSolve technically complex problems using fundamental, data driven methodologiesLead research and development activities for new manufacturing technologies that address assembly and automation challengesLead feasibility studies to aid validation of manufacturing strategiesPartner with and set expectations between cross functional teams to ensure stakeholder engagement and satisfaction with the engineering solutions deliveredDevelop standards and processes as a foundation for how the Manufacturing Engineering team operateProvide technical expertise and support to enable the Operations team to succeed including training, documentation and trouble shootingIdentify and drive corrective actions for process quality and performance issuesQualificationsBS/MS/PhD in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics (or equivalent)Hands-on experience in building/troubleshooting automation systems and acquiring experimental dataMinimum of 7 years experience in an automated manufacturing environmentAble to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines of multiple simultaneous projects and challengesStrong problem-solving skills and aptitude for learning systems quicklyCommunicate effectively with direct team and peers within a manufacturing and engineering organization. This includes exemplary verbal and written communication skills.Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skillsExperience in complex electro-mechanical system designExperience transitioning automated systems from prototype to productionExperience with 2D & 3D software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, and Catia)Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as requiredPay DisclosureSalary Range/Hourly Rate for Illinois based applicants: $140,000 - 175,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).Salary Range/Hourly Rate for SoCal based applicants: $154,000 - 192,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26.
