    Overview

    The Eliot-Pearson children's school is the laboratory-demonstration school affiliated with the Eliot-Pearson department of child study and human development at Tufts University. The school serves as a model and demonstration facility, providing a training and observation site for new and experienced teachers and a research facility for faculty and supervised students. The children's school enrolls approximately 65 children. It has preschool and kindergarten to second grade classes.

    What You'll Do

    The Staff Assistant provides administrative support to insure smooth operations of the school. He/she provides administrative and secretarial support, serves as a resource to families, assists with entering and maintaining data for applications, admissions and observations at the school. This individual supports administrators with daily operation of the office, and troubleshoots problems

    • Administrative/Secretarial support

    Organize and process administrative materials and information reports for director and school coordinator

    Support front desk/work study students in providing office-reception

    Answer inquiries, take messages, screen calls, relay messages

    Greet visitors, provide and distribute information about Eliot-Pearson and general school policies, conduct tours

    Schedule observation and appointment calendars for school

    Support the director and admin team in maintaining supplies data base and ordering of materials for school

    • School Data and Information Management Support

    Assist with entering for relevant school information and maintaining school database

    Design flyers for school activities

    Maintain files and assure school forms are updated and available at all times

    Serve as resource on school procedures, policies, applications and admissions procedures

    • Application/Admissions Process Support

    Assist with entering and maintaining data for applications, admissions and observations at the school

    Assist director and school coordinator in organizing visit days for prospective enrollees; maintain and distribute updated information; send acceptance packages with time deadlines

    Assists with design of marketing materials and publicity

    Tracks database of enrolled students, study participants or other constituents

    • Project Coordination:

    Assist admin team with information and answers questions about department Programs or Projects

    Assist in updating web information and content for posting

    Assist school coordinator with daily operations

    Coordinate logistics on-site during event or program - coordinates invitations and tracks responses, determines venue, materials, audio visual or other set-up needs

    What We're Looking For

    Basic Requirements:

    Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:

    • Four year college degree with 2-3 years' experience
    • Demonstrated communication skills with diverse/inclusive teachers, staff, professionals, children and families
    • Ability to work independently and effectively in a team with flexibility and adaptability
    • Secretarial/business skills, Computer literacy with Macintosh and PC platforms software (Microsoft word, Excel, Appleworks or MS Publisher, iPhoto and other digital imaging programs)
    • Organized and able to multi-task, set priorities; ask for help, and know when to defer decisions

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree and more than three years of related experience
    • Ability to work in a university and school setting under the direction of the Director
    • Knowledge and experience with school environments and diverse environments

    Pay Range

    Minimum $23.00, Midpoint $27.35, Maximum $31.70

    Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
