Staff Accountant (or Property Accountant)


About Our Client

Our client is a private real estate investment firm specializing in the acquisition, leasing, and management of industrial real estate. With a disciplined, patient, and defensive investment approach, they focus on delivering stable cash flow returns to a loyal base of high-net-worth investor partners while maintaining a high-touch approach to asset management across a growing portfolio of industrial properties.


Position Summary

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join their finance team in Carmel, Indiana. This role will support the day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting for the firm s industrial property portfolio. While experience in property accounting is preferred, our client is fully prepared to train the right candidate who brings a strong foundation in general accounting principles.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Support property-level accounting tasks such as tenant billing, rent collection, expense allocations, CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliations, and lease administration (training provided if needed)
  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
  • Prepare financial reports, variance analysis, and ad-hoc reporting for management
  • Collaborate with the property management and operations teams on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Assist with annual audit preparation, tax support, and compliance with GAAP and internal controls

Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
  • 2+ years of accounting experience (real estate or property accounting experience strongly preferred)
  • Solid understanding of GAAP principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with property management or accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or similar) is a plus
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • CPA or CPA candidate a plus
