LEA CLASSIFICATION: PROFESSIONAL CLASSIFIED SERVICESLEA DIVISION: ACCOUNTINGJOB TITLE: STAFF ACCOUNTANTQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent experienceKnowledge of budgeting, financial statements, and accounting/bookkeeping duties and responsibilitiesComputer skills, experience with Microsoft Office, and experience with accounting softwareTask oriented and service oriented work habitsDemonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the assigned taskOral and written communications skillsWork experience in governmental accounting preferredSuch alternatives to the above as the Board may find acceptableReports ToAccounting Coordinator and Chief School Financial Officer (CSFO)Performance ResponsibilityAssist the Accounting Coordinator and CSFO in all areas of the financial operation of the school system.Responsible for reconciling all recorded entries in individual journals and ledgers, as well as the transfer of payroll and accounting data to the Journals and General Ledgers.Assists with the accountability of all fixed assets and inventories.Assists with local school audits and provides documentation of findings.Assists with the preparation of the financial statements, income statements, and other financial reports reflecting the financial condition of the Phenix City Board of Education.Trace errors, correct entries, and record approved adjustments to maintain accurate accounting records.Assists in the year-end close process, including preparation of year-end financial statements.Assists the Accounting Coordinator and CSFO with training and resourcing the accountants, bookkeepers, directors, and principals.Assists with the on-going development and updating of the Accounting Manual.Be knowledgeable and versatile in the accounting software used by the Accounting Department.Recommends improvements in the accounting system or procedures system-wide; alerting the Accounting Coordinator and CSFO when appropriate, to potential problems.Participate in cross-training for any other types of accounting, payroll, or other finance related duties and tasks as needed.Maintain the confidentiality of the Phenix City Board of Education.Be regular and punctual in attendance.Perform additional duties as delegated by the Accounting Coordinator or CSFO.Terms of EmploymentTwelve-month position.
