Position Overview:
The SRHS Surgical Services Business Manager assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective systems support for surgical services. He/She takes a leadership role, working with the physicians, management staff, and vendors to integrate the institutional perspective in operating areas to achieve high levels of patient, physician, and employee satisfaction. The Business Manager monitors departmental charge master; billing; and budget reports, providing recommendations for improvement, simplifications, and compliance. He/She works with VHA and Gulf Coast States Purchasing Coalition to promote standardization throughout SRHS while maximizing our purchasing and cost saving opportunities. The Business Manager is responsible for financial analysis/reporting; value analysis/product selection process; annual budget in area of responsibility; billing/reimbursement, and materials management. The SRHS Surgical Services Business Manager must demonstrate knowledge of complex automated materials management systems; inventory control principles; surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment required by various surgical specialties; budgetary principles, practices, and preparation; principles, practices and methods of supervision and training; various local, state and federal standards pertinent to hospital operating room supplies; principles and concepts of conflict resolution; and typical hospital operations and organizational structure. He/She must demonstrate the ability to: develop and maintain complex automated supply and equipment inventory records; compile and prepare regular inventory status reports; critically analyze and recommend resolution of supply and equipment related problems; prepare and present division budget; remain up-to-date with surgical equipment and supply trends; apply effective judgement in employing and dealing with subordinate personnel; effectively and resourcefully resolve problems and fill a primary role in maintaining efficient departmental operations; work effectively and in cooperation with other organizations, departments and personnel; and provide support and assistance utilizing management principles and team work to promote achievement of common goals and to resolve problems.

Education:
Must be either a graduate from NLN school of nursing; BSN preferred (with current Mississippi State licensure), or a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
License:
If nursing graduate, must have current Mississippi State licensure.
Certifications:
Certified Materials and Resource Professional (CMRP) preferred. Must be CMRP eligible and become certified within two (2) years. Required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
Experience:
Minimum three (3) years' experience in working in the operating room/surgical services with

Executive Director of Procedural Services
Supervises:
Non-professional and technical personnel assigned to Surgical Services for the system; OR Materials Specialists, Distribution Specialists, Clerical Coordinators, and Materials Assistants.
Physical Demands:
Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
