The Senior Array Software Technical Product Manager is a market-facing, commercially focused technical product leader responsible for the product strategy, roadmap, and commercial success of Illuminas array software portfolio - DRAGEN Array, DesignStudio, and legacy array informatics tools.
This role sits at the intersection of Product, Engineering, Sales, and Customers, ensuring that our array software products resonate with enterprise life sciences customers and drive measurable business impact. The ideal candidate brings experience in life sciences software or genomics, strong exposure to enterprise customers, and a proven ability to translate customer and market insights into detailed product requirements and go-to-market execution.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Roadmap Ownership
• Own the end-to-end product roadmap for DRAGEN Array, DesignStudio, and legacy array software
• Define product requirements based on customer needs, competitive landscape, and business objectives
• Prioritize features and capabilities in collaboration with engineering, balancing customer value against development cost and timeline
• Drive product lifecycle decisions - launch, iteration, deprecation, and end-of-life planning
• Partner with Engineering to ensure roadmap decisions align with commercial impact and market readiness
Market & Customer Leadership
• Act as the voice of array software customers, representing customer needs, workflows, and buying drivers
• Lead Voice of Customer (VoC) efforts including customer interviews, field engagement, advisory boards, and win/loss analysis
• Develop and maintain customer personas, buyer profiles, and use-case narratives across array segments (e.g., genotyping, pharmacogenomics, polygenic risk scoring, biobank)
• Partner closely with Sales, Customer Success, and Field Marketing to identify commercial gaps, expansion opportunities, and adoption barriers
Positioning, Messaging & Differentiation
• Own product positioning, value propositions, and messaging for the array software portfolio
• Translate complex technical capabilities into clear, compelling, customer-centric narratives tailored for enterprise buyers and decision makers
• Lead competitive analysis and market intelligence efforts across the array informatics landscape; identify actionable differentiation and competitive response strategies
• Influence product strategy by clearly articulating market problems, unmet needs, and commercial opportunities
Go-to-Market Strategy & Execution
• Define and drive go-to-market strategies for new array software launches, major releases, and platform capabilities
• Enable Sales and Customer Success through sales plays, enablement materials, demos, pricing/packaging input, and objection handling
• Support enterprise deals including customer briefings, RFPs, technical/commercial narratives, and executive presentations
• Drive adoption metrics - monitor usage, identify barriers to adoption, and execute programs to increase customer engagement
Cross-Functional Coordination
• Connect the Arrays business unit and array workflows to all relevant software tools across the SWI portfolio - including Orchestration, Cloud Platform, Multiomics, Oncology Interpretation, and Genetic Disease Interpretation - ensuring array customers benefit from the full breadth of Illuminas software capabilities
• Coordinate with regulatory/quality on compliance requirements for clinical array applications
• Align with other software TPMs on shared platform capabilities, infrastructure dependencies, and portfolio-level strategy
Requirements
• Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelors degree; or 3 years and a Masters degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience
• Strong analytical skills required
• Strong verbal and written communication skills required
• Ability to present complex ideas and information clearly and succinctly in a group setting
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in requirements gathering, development & scrum product owner role
• Knowledge of the full software development life cycle
• Knowledge of genotyping, microarray technology, and array-based analysis workflows preferred
• Knowledge of genomics analysis software and pipeline creation
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a complex fast-paced environment
• Knowledge of user experience design in developing software solutions with exceptional usability
• Experience with variant calling, imputation, polygenic risk scoring, or pharmacogenomics analysis is a plus
• Prior programming experience a plus
• Knowledge of data engineering/data networks is a plus
• Experience working in an ISO:13485 or FDA regulated (QSR) environment is a plus
