Career Opportunity The city of Las Vegas is accepting applications for Sr Signing & Marking Technician. This position leads, oversees and participates in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks involved in the installation and maintenance of traffic control indicators; and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
This is the advanced journey level class in the Signing and Marking Technician series. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned to classes within this series. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.
Receives direction from the Traffic Field Supervisor or higher level management staff. Acts as a lead worker, exercising functional or technical supervision, including scheduling and assigning tasks, providing guidance, ensuring work is completed according to proper procedure, monitoring work progress, and reviewing results.
A civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas. The supplemental questions are the examination. Falsification of information may result in disqualification from a recruitment or removal from a city position. Additional information will not be accepted after the closing date. The supplemental questions are weighted 100% for placement on an eligible list, and must be worked on individually by the applicant only. The supplemental questions of all qualified applicants will be reviewed for placement on an eligible list.
You must score 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list. The eligible list will remain in effect for a period of 6 months from the date of certification and may be extended for a period of up to 2 years. Selection Process Final candidate selection will include list placement and may include hiring interview (if applicable). Any individual offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test, complete background check, and may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job. Some positions may require preliminary background checks. The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current and/or future openings which may include part-time or full-time positions.

Experience
Two years of increasingly responsible traffic maintenance experience, including roadway markings and sign installation.
Training
Equivalent to graduation from high school.
Licenses and Certifications
Possession of an appropriate, valid Class B commercial driver's license on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter.
Possession of Signs and Markings Specialist Level I certification from the International Municipal Signal Association on date of application, and maintenance thereafter.
As a condition of continued employment, employees must acquire the following certifications by the dates specified:
Possession of a Flagman certification from the Nevada Department of Transportation within one year of the date of appointment, and maintenance thereafter.
Possession of a City of Las Vegas forklift certificate within one year of the date of appointment, and maintenance thereafter.
Possession of Signs and Markings Specialist Level II certification from the International Municipal Signal Association within two years of the date of appointment, and maintenance thereafter.
Special Requirements
Certain city functions operate on a 24 hour per day, seven day per week schedule, and may require support on any shift. Additionally, position may be required to respond to call outs during emergency situations.
