  • 12-month contract to start with the possibility of extension or conversion depending on performance and business needs
  • Rate: $75-85 an hour
  • Location: Sout San Francisco, CA – 100% onsite
  • Hours: M-F / 8AM – 5PM
Job Description:
  • The Immuno-Oncology Discovery team is seeking an experienced bench scientist to support its human tumor bank. This role focuses on receiving, processing, cryopreserving, tracking, and managing human tumor specimens while maintaining sample inventory and metadata to support oncology pipeline projects. The scientist will partner with internal research teams and external CROs to distribute samples, support assay development, and ensure high-quality tumor bank operations. This is a hands-on laboratory role, with future opportunities to support complex in vitro model development.
  • Receive, process, cryopreserve, and store human tumor and primary tissue samples.
  • Manage tumor bank inventory, sample tracking, storage, and metadata.
  • Coordinate sample distribution for internal research teams and external CROs.
  • Submit samples for downstream analyses (RNA, mutation profiling, AI/omics platforms).
  • Manage pathology reports and ensure appropriate documentation and data integrity.
  • Partner with Discovery and Data Sciences teams to support assay development and oncology research.
  • Support development of complex in vitro models (nice to have).
Required Skills:
  • BS with 10+ years or MS with 8+ years of relevant post-graduate experience. PhD candidates will only be considered if they have meaningful industry experience. Entry-level or academic-only PhD candidates are not the target profile.
  • Strong industry experience in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals
  • Extensive experience working with human primary tissues, tumors, and tumor banks.
  • Hands-on experience with tumor sample receipt, cryopreservation, storage, inventory management, and tracking.
  • Oncology or Immuno-Oncology research background.
  • Multi-parameter Flow Cytometry experience.
  • Experience managing sample metadata and familiarity with biobanks or omics databases.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and Excel skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Spectral Flow Cytometry.
  • Experience with Smartsheet, Airflow, or FreezerPro (preferred as the organization is transitioning to this platform).
  • Experience supporting complex in vitro model development.
  • Experience working with large molecule research programs.
  • Experience collaborating with CROs.
