Overview
THE ROLE:The Senior Scientist serves as a technical subject matter expert responsible for product maintenance, reformulation, and continuous improvement of nutritional beverage, food, and dietary supplement products. This role leads product reformulation initiatives, evaluates and qualifies alternate raw materials, investigates and resolves production and product-related issues, and supports strategic cost savings opportunities while maintaining product quality, regulatory compliance, and consumer expectations. The Senior Scientist collaborates closely with Quality, Manufacturing, Strategic Sourcing, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, and external suppliers to identify and implement technical solutions that support supply continuity, manufacturing efficiency, and business objectives. Additional responsibilities include qualification of alternate raw materials, resolution of incoming raw material issues, development and execution of stability programs related to packaging changes, and troubleshooting formulation and manufacturing challenges. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to independently manage multiple projects in a dynamic cross-functional environment.
HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE:• Lead product reformulation projects involving ingredient, formulation, process, and supplier changes while ensuring product quality, safety, regulatory compliance, and performance requirements are maintained.• Identify, evaluate, and implement cost savings initiatives through ingredient optimization, alternate sourcing strategies, process improvements, and formulation changes.• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues, product events, and manufacturing deviations by conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.• Evaluate, qualify, and implement alternate raw materials to support supply continuity, cost optimization, and risk mitigation objectives.• Assess incoming raw material issues and collaborate with Quality, Strategic Sourcing, suppliers, and Manufacturing to determine technical acceptability and resolution plans.• Design, execute, and interpret laboratory, pilot, and manufacturing trials to support reformulation activities, raw material qualifications, and process improvements.• Develop stability study protocols associated with new packaging components and evaluate results to ensure product quality, shelf-life, and regulatory compliance.• Generate technical reports, summarize findings, and communicate recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders and management.• Utilize statistical and scientific methodologies to evaluate formulation changes, manufacturing performance, and stability data.• Serve as the technical lead for maintenance and continuous improvement projects, ensuring successful implementation and commercial execution.• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external suppliers to resolve technical challenges and support business objectives.• Perform additional duties as assigned.
