The Research team at Intermap creates, maintains, and supports critical production systems and automated solutions enabling customers worldwide with fundamental remote-sensing, machine-learning, and Geomatics solutions and products on the foundation of high-resolution elevation data. The successful candidate will own the SAR research roadmap to maintain and advance our SAR and IFSAR signal processing expertise.The primary responsibilities of the Sr Scientist are to advance capabilities in SAR and IFSAR capabilities of both our internal airborne STAR systems, including X-band and P-band, as well as satellite-based SAR images and DEMs via targeted research initiatives. The goal is to enhance the accuracy, spatial quality, function, and commercial opportunity for SAR and IFSAR products, including feature extraction applications, surveillance, and mapping applications.Job ResponsibilitiesPropose, design, develop, and lead independent research to advance capability for all interferometric SAR-based initiatives, algorithms, software, and systems including but not limited to:Data improvement, PolSAR applications, motion compensation, IFSAR processing including phase unwrapping, GMTI (Ground Moving Target Indicator)Support, troubleshoot and correct problems with existing SAR and IFSAR processing algorithms and softwareEnhance and maintain calibration for Intermap's X-band and P-band radar systemsLead researcher for proposals and initiatives for US-based Federal Agency BAA topicsCollaboration on proposals for SAR (or other) sensor improvements from a design contribution standpointDevelopment for SAR signal processing advancement, including MATLAB or Python protypesMaintain and advance both time and frequency domain SAR processing capabilitiesMentor and lead Engineering interns and other employees on related projects and activitiesJob RequirementsAdvanced Degree (MSc or PHD) in a relevant technical field (i.e., Engineering, Physics, Mathematics)Signal and image processing, algorithm development, model optimization, software development, data analysis and/or modeling and simulationExperience in researching, designing, and implementing advanced SAR signal processing and algorithmsDemonstrated ability to interpret, understand and apply theoretical scientific papers and algorithmsDeveloping simulations and performance models for radar systemsStrong programming skills sufficient to generate prototype solutions (C++, C, MATLAB, Python, or similar)Digital image processing and computer vision knowledge or experienceKnowledge in coordinate systems and transformations an assetIFSAR, InSAR, and PolSAR processing experience an assetSAR-based and Optical image-based feature detection expertise an assetGeomatics knowledge an asset
