    Description

Amazon Global Engineering Services (GES) is seeking a strategic, results-driven, and customer-obsessed Senior Program Manager to lead and scale the ordering function for new build infrastructure and expansion/retrofit projects within our Global Engineering Materials and Sustainability (GEMS) Organization. This individual will define and drive the long-term vision for ordering operations, building scalable processes, leveraging AI and automation to gain efficiencies, and influencing cross-functional senior leadership to deliver outcomes across a portfolio of 450+ projects valued at $5B+.

This role requires a leader who thrives in high-ambiguity environments, can independently identify and solve systemic problems, and drives organizational-level improvements that raise the bar for the broader business. The ideal candidate will balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, operating as both an architect of scalable systems and a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders.

This is an office-based role requiring regular presence at a corporate location, with up to 10% nationwide travel as needed. Candidates should either live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of the office. Relocation assistance may be provided.

    Key job responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership & Scaling

    • Define and own the multi-year roadmap for the ordering function, identifying opportunities to scale operations, reduce cycle times, and improve quality across the portfolio.
    • Design and implement scalable frameworks, mechanisms, and standard operating procedures that enable the team to absorb significant growth without proportional headcount increases.
    • Identify and drive adoption of AI, machine learning, and automation solutions to transform manual workflows into intelligent, self-service systems that deliver measurable efficiency gains.

    Process Excellence & Innovation

    • Lead end-to-end process re-engineering initiatives across the ordering lifecycle, establishing robust mechanisms that eliminate defects, reduce variance, and improve compliance with procurement standards.
    • Develop and own KPIs and metrics frameworks that provide visibility into ordering health, catalog accuracy, purchase order issuance quality, and inventory receiving optimization.
    • Conduct deep-dive analyses on systemic issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions that have broad organizational impact beyond the immediate team.

    Cross-Functional Influence & Stakeholder Management

    • Influence senior leadership across multiple organizations (Finance, Launch, GPO, etc.) to align on standards, secure resources, and drive adoption of ordering best practices.
    • Own executive-level communication including Monthly Business Reviews, presenting strategic insights, risk assessments, and recommendations that shape investment decisions.
    • Partner with technical teams to define requirements for system enhancements, tool development, and integration opportunities that improve the end-to-end procurement ecosystem.

    People Development & Peer Coaching

    • Actively coach and develop peers and junior team members through 1:1s, skill-building sessions, and real-time feedback, raising the performance bar across the team.
    • Serve as a force multiplier by identifying growth opportunities for others, and creating structured mentorship pathways that accelerate career development.
    • Foster a culture of psychological safety and continuous learning where team members lean on each other"s strengths, share knowledge openly, and hold each other accountable to high standards.

    Operational Excellence & Team Enablement

    • Establish and maintain service level agreements (SLAs) with internal customers, implementing proactive monitoring and escalation mechanisms that ensure consistent delivery.
    • Create comprehensive training programs and knowledge management systems that enable rapid onboarding and reduce single-threaded dependencies.
    • Drive a continuous improvement culture by establishing feedback loops, retrospectives, and mechanisms that capture learnings and propagate best practices across the organization.

So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
