In this high‑impact role, you’ll combine analytical expertise with strong business instincts—evaluating risk, shaping profitable portfolios, and partnering with top-tier brokers to fuel premium growth. You’ll serve as both a trusted advisor and a proactive problem‑solver, helping agency partners win more business while ensuring underwriting integrity and long-term profitability.
The Senior Production Underwriter is primarily responsible for:
Risk Evaluation:
Selection, retention, and pricing of new and existing business in accordance with the company’s underwriting philosophy and guidelines.
Broker Relationships:
Proactively develops and fosters positive, professional relationships with the company’s agency partners to promote the company’s products and services.
Premium Growth:
Works closely with Field Sales Managers on broker plan management (e.g., generation of submissions, target quote and bind ratios, co‑developing agency business plans and incentives).
Underwriting Profit:
Collaborates with Field Sales Managers to achieve pricing and commission targets that support the company’s profitability objectives.
Key functions include but are not limited to:
- Underwrite new and renewal business in alignment with company guidelines, authority levels, and risk‑selection philosophy.
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with agency partners, providing timely, ethical, and solutions‑focused support.
- Educate agents on underwriting appetite, pricing expectations, and submission requirements.
- Monitor key performance metrics for assigned agencies, including premium goals, business mix, and quote-to-bind ratios.
- Drive growth by actively seeking quality new business opportunities and following up on quoted accounts.
- Travel to agency locations as needed to provide field underwriting, quoting, and relationship management.
- Review claims activity, inspection reports, and loss control recommendations, taking appropriate action on in‑force policies.
- Collaborate with internal departments to resolve policy issues and ensure smooth account handling.
- Oversee policy changes and delegate tasks to underwriting support staff as appropriate.
- Mentor and provide training to junior team members.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent
- 5+ years of experience in California workers’ compensation underwriting, or equivalent
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, decision-oriented environment
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Strong automation skills including MS Office products
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment

• Base Salary Range: $80,000 - 140,000 annually

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
