Job Title: Sr. Process Safety / Functional Safety Engineer Position Overview We are seeking a senior engineer with strong process safety experience and practical functional safety/SIS expertise to support projects throughout the company. This role will help bridge traditional process safety work such as PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, consequence modeling, and risk reduction with functional safety lifecycle deliverables such as SRS development, SIF definition, SIL verification, proof test planning, and IEC 61511 compliance. Our staff leads and collaborates with Company’s module fabrication and construction teams to approach construction-driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit’s legacy of excellence. Location This position is based out of our Energy Corridor Office in Houston, TX and typically requires less than 25 percent travel. Opportunities for flexible work are available.  Responsibilities •    Performs complex process safety and functional safety assignments and applies applicable codes and standards correctly with limited supervision.•    Supports and leads process safety studies and deliverables, including PHA/HAZOP, LOPA, consequence modeling, vapor dispersion, thermal radiation, relief/flare evaluations, and PHA action item closeout.•    Develops and reviews SIS and functional safety deliverables across the SIS safety lifecycle, including Functional Safety Management Plans, Safety Requirements Specifications, SIF SRS datasheets, SIL verification calculations, proof test procedures, validation support, and functional safety assessment readiness.•    Reviews and corrects the work of engineers and designers to develop process safety and functional safety documents, calculations, and design basis materials as needed.•    Partners with process, process safety, instrumentation and controls, electrical, operations, and project teams to ensure risk reduction measures are practical, constructible, maintainable, and aligned with project requirements.•    Leads mid to large-size projects or proposals and supports scope definition, staffing estimates, execution planning, and technical delivery for process safety and functional safety work scopes.•    Manages several different assignments simultaneously while prioritizing work to meet project commitments and individual deliverables.•    Applies techniques, tools, and technologies to improve work processes, reduce project risk, improve design quality, and lower total installed cost.•    Develops and improves standards, philosophies, guidelines, templates, and design practices related to process safety, SIS, and functional safety.•    Serves as a technical resource and mentor to less experienced engineers in both process safety and functional safety topics.•    Reviews the application and interpretation of applicable codes and standards, including process safety standards and functional safety requirements.•    Leads teams in identifying and managing changes in scope during mid to large-sized projects.•    Leads quality checks of process safety and functional safety engineering deliverables to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project requirements.•    Establishes credibility through strong technical competency, sound judgment, clear communication, and practical project execution.•    Contributes to client proposals, project cost estimates, technical qualifications, and execution strategies for process safety and functional safety scopes.D28 #LI-Hybrid Qualifications •    Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering required; Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls, Mechanical, or related engineering background may be considered when supported by strong functional safety and process industry experience.•    10 years minimum relevant experience in engineering design firms for LNG, refining, petrochemical, midstream, or other process industry facilities.•    Demonstrated experience in process safety engineering, including PHA/HAZOP, LOPA, consequence analysis, risk assessment, and development or closeout of process safety recommendations.•    Demonstrated experience in functional safety/SIS engineering, including SIF definition, SRS development, SIL verification, proof test procedure development, validation support, and safety lifecycle documentation.•    Experience with SIL verification software such as exSILentia is strongly preferred.•    Functional safety certification such as CFSE, CFSP, TÜV Functional Safety Engineer, or similar is preferred.•    Experience supporting Functional Safety Assessments, Safety Lifecycle audits, Management of Change reviews, and SIS-related design reviews is preferred.•    Self-directs work with limited supervision and demonstrates strong ownership of technical deliverables, schedule, and quality. •    Provides guidance, leadership, and training to less experienced engineers and leads small teams to complete technical tasks or project designs. •    Leads small team to complete task/design on project. •    Works with project teams as the discipline representative and coordinates work within the department and across other engineering disciplines. •    Adjusts to varying work demands and performs well in a fast-paced project environment.•    Develops and presents work in well-constructed written and verbal communications; clearly conveys technical messages and gains alignment from stakeholders.•    Communicates effectively with supervisors, project managers, discipline leads, clients, vendors, and members of the immediate department.•    Works collaboratively across departments and involves others in solving problems, including process, I&C, electrical, mechanical, operations, and construction teams.•    Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner and works well with others to accomplish common goals and objectives.•    Serves as a technical resource and point of contact for internal and external customers on process safety and functional safety matters.
