The Sr. Pilot Process Engineer will implement, develop, and optimize production methodologies in the manufacturing operations of Tesla. This engineer will be responsible for optimizing product flow through the factory through process optimization that may include tool fixture selection, line layouts, ergonomic study, material presentation, and other relevant factors. They will interface with design, test, and quality engineering to solve problems, improve manufacturability, and implement continual improvement. They will sustain products with cost reduction and yield improvements. In addition, the process engineer will work with quality to compile and evaluate data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process or material specifications.

  • Work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Product Introduction and other teams to define, qualify, and track new processes and all associated work instructions, equipment, tools, materials, and training
  • Understand current production process and identify areas of improvement with existing processes and areas of the manufacturing line in order to optimize factory processes
  • Evaluate changes to product for assembly sequence and work content and create a process plan for trials and launch
  • Suggest design improvements that improve ergonomics, cycle time and quality
  • Utilize lean manufacturing tools and concepts such as value stream mapping, line balancing, and 5S to identify optimal process within the constraints of the existing production line
  • Ensure processes provide a high level of safety and ergonomic compliance
  • Actively participate in offline and online trials to identify issues of safety, quality and rate and implement fixes for future builds
  • Verify design and NPI releases and correct and are set up to support assembly operations and feedback to relevant teams any misses
  • Identify tooling and equipment needs and work with relevant teams to make sure timing is met
  • Generate documentation for change controls and engineering qualification protocols to support process changes
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrically Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related subject, or equivalent experience
  • Previous manufacturing or vehicle assembly experience
  • Hands-on skills with hardware, tools, instruments, general electromechanical systems, measurement techniques
  • Experience with ergonomic process design, part variation control, and human factors effects on product
  • Data collection and analysis experience
  • Strong ability to work and communicate effectively with team and peers within a vehicle assembly and engineering organization. This includes excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and email
  • Strong problem solving skills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly
  • Exceptional capacity for managing simultaneous activities and challenges
  • Creative capacity for developing new ways to do things better, cheaper, faster in alignment with the aggressive Tesla approach to revolutionary product development

Expected Compensation

$104,000 - $180,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
