We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Automation & Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Wixom, MI.

Position Summary

The ideal candidate will lead the design, development, and commissioning of automated machinery, while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical systems. This is a high-impact role involving technical leadership, project ownership, and occasional domestic and international travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and create mechanical parts, detail drawings, and assemblies using SolidWorks and related CAD tools.
  • Develop bills of materials (BOM) in SAP and maintain accurate engineering documentation.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, assembly, purchasing, service, and pre-engineering teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Prepare equipment documentation including I/O lists, schematics, functional descriptions, operation manuals, and P&ID diagrams.
  • Read and analyze hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams for proper system integration.
  • Lead system commissioning activities on-site and provide technical customer support as required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards and regulations (e.g., NFPA 79, CE, UL508A).
  • Manage assigned duties with strong awareness of project timing, cost, and quality requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design within an OEM or automation environment supplier.
  • Strong experience with SolidWorks and mechanical system design.
  • Applied knowledge of SAP (Materials, BOM, and related modules).
  • Experience with servo systems, robotics integration, motion control, and industrial networking.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Occasional travel domestically and internationally as needed
