    Role Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Materials Design Engineer with strong expertise in castings, forgings, and metallography to support aerospace propulsion and auxiliary power applications. This role provides technical leadership in materials and process engineering for new and existing cast and/or forged products. You will work as part of a highly collaborative Materials Engineering team and serve as a technical resource for less-experienced engineers.This position is 100% on-site in Tempe, AZ and involves close collaboration with engineering, quality, supplier development, and supply chain teams to ensure high-performance, compliant aerospace components.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide materials and process engineering support for cast and/or forged aerospace componentsSupport design and manufacturing activities for aluminum, steel, titanium, and nickel-based alloysParticipate in all phases of product development, from concept through production supportServe as a technical point of contact and mentor for junior engineersTroubleshoot material and process-related issues and provide rapid technical solutionsCollaborate with suppliers to resolve casting and forging issues and drive continuous improvementAssess new suppliers, evaluate capabilities, and support supplier development initiativesConduct or support supplier audits (casting, forging, billet/ingot, powder processes)Act as a liaison between suppliers and internal engineering, quality, supplier development, and supply chain teamsReview and interpret engineering drawings, material specifications, and processing requirementsSupport process improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or related methodologiesTravel up to 10% within the U.S. to supplier locationsOccasionally lift up to 35 lbs (single lift) as requiredQualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in a STEM discipline4+ years of experience in materials and/or process engineering within the casting and/or forging industry4+ years of hands-on experience with aerospace aluminum, steel, titanium, and nickel alloysStrong background in castings, forgings, and/or metallographyPreferredBachelor's degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace EngineeringAdvanced engineering degree a plusHands-on experience with casting and/or forging processes (investment casting, sand casting, billet/ingot, powder production)Familiarity with aerospace material and processing specificationsWorking knowledge of Nadcap and related aerospace industry standardsExperience conducting supplier audits and supporting supplier qualificationExperience working cross-functionally with design engineering teamsProficiency in troubleshooting complex material and process issuesExperience with casting and/or forging simulation tools (e.g., DEFORM )Familiarity with Six Sigma, Lean, or other process improvement toolsInterview ProcessDuration: 6 monthsExtension: Possible based on performance and business needsWork Location: On-site in Tempe, AZTravel: Approximately 10% (U.S.-based suppliers only)Weekly time reporting via TWBWorker will be registered in Fieldglass by the supplier; no direct system access requiredPre-Screen QuestionsCandidates must include responses to the following questions on their resume:Technical Expertise:Describe your experience with materials and process engineering for cast and/or forged products, specifically involving aerospace alloys such as aluminum, steel, titanium, and nickel.Problem-Solving & Supplier Interaction:Provide an example of a time you identified and resolved a material or process issue with a supplier.
