Tesla is seeking a highly motivated engineer to develop new processes and high-volume automation equipment supporting the High Voltage Distribution team in Austin, TX. These production lines include highly automated manufacturing systems to assemble bus bars for high voltage distribution. You will work closely with Tesla's internal Product Design, Controls, Safety, Quality, Facilities and Operations teams and lead cross-functional design activities with automation equipment vendors to develop and deploy new Drive Unit manufacturing lines. You will assume full ownership of the design, development, and optimization, as well as lead the technical transfer of the tools to Tesla Operations, qualifying them for use with the highest standards of safety, quality, and output.

  • Develop new highly automated manufacturing lines from concept to production
  • Provide design for manufacturing feedback to simplify designs for highest production efficiency and scalability
  • Drive equipment and process optimization to increase yield, throughput, and availability while reducing cost and lead-time
  • Manage installation, qualification, and ramp of manufacturing lines
  • Lead validation of production processes and automated inspection tools
  • Generate machine specifications, standards, and documentation
  • Identify and resolve a diverse range of equipment mechanical, electrical, controls and software issues in production
  • 5+ years of experience as a hand-on mechanical or manufacturing engineer working on high-volume production
  • Experience developing automated equipment from design to deployment
  • Proficiency in mechanical assembly methods, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Process validation and statistical analysis experience
  • Manufacturing data analysis skills
  • SolidWorks or other 3D CAD skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
