Sr. Library Specialist, Mobile Library Services

Arapahoe Libraries is seeking a Senior Library Specialist, Mobile Library Services to serve as the onsite lead at mobile and outreach locations while delivering strong reference, advisory, and technology support.

About the Role

As a Senior Library Specialist, Mobile Library Services, you will bring experience and consistency to each stop, supporting staff and volunteers, maintaining collections and service areas, and helping ensure things run smoothly from start to finish. You will also take on lead responsibilities during assigned stops, providing guidance, problem solving support, and a steady presence when it matters most. This work is fast moving and highly visible, requiring strong instincts, flexibility, and the ability to adjust to different environments throughout the day.

Key Responsibilities

Patron Assistance and Collection Maintenance

  • Provides proactive, inclusive service in a variety of mobile and outreach settings, including lobby stops and bookmobile locations
  • Delivers intermediate advisory and reference services
  • May serve as the person in charge during assigned stops when the supervisor, assistant supervisor, or librarian are not present, addressing patron concerns and explaining policies and procedures
  • Leads de-escalation efforts and models confident, compassionate responses to challenging situations
  • Promotes library resources, programs, and outreach initiatives
  • Provides intermediate technology support for devices, printers, connectivity, and e-resources
  • Troubleshoots common technology and equipment issues in mobile settings
  • Performs library materials collection maintenance

Training, Onboarding, and Leadership

  • Takes assignments from the leadership team to address learning objectives for Library Specialist staff and volunteers
  • Conducts on the job training for Library Specialist staff and volunteers
  • Provides proactive feedback to the learning and development team on the efficacy of training and participates in improving training
  • Models correct processes and procedures and provides feedback in a positive and encouraging manner to the trainee
  • Collaborates and communicates with others using a growth mindset
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and empowers others to be adaptable to change

Driving and Vehicle Operations

  • Drives Library District vehicles, including the bookmobile, to assigned service locations
  • Completes required vehicle safety inspections and documentation
  • Safely operates vehicles in compliance with traffic laws and district policies
  • Complies with Department of Transportation rules and regulations for commercial vehicles, including drug and alcohol testing

Collection and Service Operations

  • Oversees collection maintenance and material handling at mobile stops
  • Ensures displays, carts, and service areas are organized and functional
  • Supports coordination of outreach logistics as assigned
  • Provides story time and helps to implement other outreach events as needed
  • Supports programs, events, and outreach efforts and tracks attendance and service metrics
  • Assists with home delivery services and may drive a personal vehicle for occasional delivery assignments
  • Collaborates with colleagues across teams and engages in ongoing professional learning

Library Experience: You bring at least two years of experience providing library services, including reference and advisory support across a range of patron needs and collection formats.

Leadership in the Moment: You are comfortable taking the lead during assigned mobile stops, supporting staff and volunteers, and helping service run smoothly when others are not on site.

Tech Confidence: You are ready to troubleshoot common issues and help others feel more at ease with technology. You bring intermediate skills with Microsoft 365, web tools, devices, printers, connectivity, and e resources.

Training and Peer Support: You have a genuine interest in guiding others through onboarding, training, and day-to-day learning. You share knowledge generously, model strong practices, and offer feedback in a way that helps people grow.

Communication and Sound Judgment: You have a calm, respectful, and clear approach to serving patrons and coworkers, especially when situations are challenging. You can explain policies, de-escalate concerns, and keep things moving with professionalism and care.

Mobility and Flexibility: You have the ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel between service locations, including driving district vehicles and working in a variety of community settings.

Qualifications

Required

  • Two years of experience providing library services to patrons including providing reference and advisory services
  • Intermediate technology skills for Microsoft 365 Word Excel Outlook and familiarity with Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Teams and an ability to learn and apply new technologies
  • Strong reader's advisory skills across multiple formats
  • Demonstrated ability to confidently de-escalate situations
  • Interest and experience in training mentoring or leading staff
  • Ability to work evenings weekends and travel between service locations
  • Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record which meets district standards
  • Current Commercial Driver's License CDL or valid Colorado driver's license and ability to obtain a CDL within six weeks of hire
  • Ability to successfully pass post offer physical and drug screens for CDL maintenance
  • Ability to provide intermediate advisory services to patrons in all collection formats and genres and advanced advisory services in one area of choice

Preferred

  • Outreach mobile services or community engagement experience
  • Experience working with children and teens
