Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to support the HALEU (High Assay Low Enriched Uranium) project, a DOE‑funded initiative expanding uranium enrichment capabilities. This role supports large‑scale, capital‑intensive design and engineering efforts, working alongside EPC contractor teams to deliver complex industrial and nuclear infrastructure solutions. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in I&C systems design, large project execution, and regulatory compliance within high‑value environments.

Work Environment:

  • On‑site engineering role in Greenville, SC or Houston, TX supporting a major DOE‑funded nuclear infrastructure project with collaboration across engineering and construction teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams supporting I&C system design and implementation.
  • Perform and review a broad range of I&C design activities including control systems architecture, PLCs, DCS, digital control systems, and network configuration.
  • Support development and review of P&IDs, logic diagrams, HMI systems, communication protocols, and system layouts.
  • Interpret and apply national, state, and local codes (including NFPA 70) and customer design requirements to engineering documentation and specifications.
  • Review construction documents and ensure alignment with design intent and compliance requirements.
  • Develop and review engineering calculations, system specifications, and design documentation.
  • Support procurement activities for control systems and instrumentation components.
  • Prepare cost estimates and project schedules for engineering deliverables.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams across electrical, mechanical, and process disciplines.
  • Support design through project startup and commissioning activities for large‑scale systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 15+ years of experience in instrumentation and controls engineering.
  • Strong experience designing and supporting control panels and industrial control systems.
  • Experience supporting large CapEx projects (>$100M).
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as NFPA 70 or equivalent electrical codes.
  • Experience with computer‑aided design tools such as STAAD or RISA.
  • Strong understanding of control systems, process automation, and industrial instrumentation.
  • Ability to lead technical efforts and mentor junior engineers.

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting nuclear, energy, or large industrial infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with safety systems, SIL, and high‑reliability system design.
  • Experience supporting EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) environments.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Compensation: $170,000 - $215,000 annually
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401k, paid time off, federal holidays, and sick leave.
