Amazon Lab126 is the team behind some of Amazon"s best-known devices - Kindle, Fire TV, Echo, and the products still on our drawing boards. As a Senior Hardware Development Engineer, you"ll lead the design of complex hardware sub-systems, drive decisions in ambiguous problem spaces, and mentor engineers across a cross-disciplinary team. The hardware you ship will reach customers around the world. What will you help us create?

Key job responsibilities

As part of the system EE team, partnering with technology subject-matter experts across disciplines, you will:

Own end-to-end integration of displays, cameras, sensors, audio, RF/wireless, and other core technologies - from concept through production.

Partner with hardware, software, mechanical, and supplier teams to define product requirements and drive execution in ambiguous design spaces.

Lead the design, validation, and bring-up of system boards , translating early-stage product concepts into manufacturable hardware.

Diagnose and resolve complex design and manufacturing issues where root causes are unclear, finding paths forward in difficult situations.

Define and own system performance validation strategies, balancing short-term execution with long-term product quality.

Lead engineering builds and partner with manufacturers globally to deliver high-volume manufacturing readiness, with travel as needed.

A day in the life

As a Senior Hardware Development Engineer, you will engage with experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative consumer products. You will work with interdisciplinary teams and external partners to drive product definition, execution, and test - often in problem spaces where requirements are still being defined. You will bring sound technical judgment to complex decisions, mentor junior engineers, and shape your team"s design strategy. You must be responsive, flexible, and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment. You will work on projects from concept through production, with international travel to support engineering builds as needed.

About the team

We are a passionate, collaborative team of engineers and innovators dedicated to creating transformative consumer electronics. Our team thrives on cross-functional collaboration, bringing together diverse expertise to solve complex technical challenges. We believe in empowering our engineers to think creatively, take calculated risks, and drive meaningful innovation.

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
