Position Overview

Zachry Engineering is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to support large, complex Power and Industrial projects based in Omaha, Nebraska. This role serves as a senior technical authority responsible for structural design excellence, reviewer oversight, and risk‑informed engineering execution across EPC and FEED/FEL project phases.

The position combines hands‑on structural design leadership, technical mentorship, and cross‑discipline coordination, with accountability for constructability, code compliance, and safety-both permanent and temporary structures.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will lead and support the successful delivery of safe, compliant, and cost‑effective structural systems throughout the full project lifecycle.

You will:

  • Lead and provide technical guidance throughout the structural design and engineering process, frequently serving as the senior reviewer for calculations, models, and complex technical deliverables

  • Coordinate, review, and approve building and structural design plans, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances, regulations, and project standards

  • Serve as a technical mentor by providing discipline‑specific expertise, including the development and delivery of training for junior and mid‑level structural engineers

  • Prepare and review advanced engineering deliverables such as:

  • Structural calculations and reports

  • Technical studies and design narratives

  • Tables, charts, and engineering summaries

  • Sketches, cross‑sections, and 2D/3D structural illustrations

  • Develop comprehensive structural engineering reports and presentations that clearly communicate technical concepts, research findings, risks, and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders

  • Analyze data obtained during site investigations and contribute to the development of action plans addressing moderate‑ to high‑risk conditions, including constructability and geotechnical interfaces

  • Interface confidently and professionally with architects, consultants, clients, contractors, and internal leadership

  • Maintain full responsibility for the design and safety of temporary structures used during construction activities

  • Evaluate construction costs, environmental constraints, and regulatory requirements during planning, design, and risk analysis phases

  • Perform material take‑offs for steel and concrete on industrial and power generation projects

  • Develop and review technical specifications and scopes of work for:

  • Structural steel

  • Reinforced and mass concrete

  • Geotechnical systems and construction materials

  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering methods, adapting established techniques where appropriate using sound professional judgment

  • Travel to project sites to conduct walkdowns, support construction activities, and assist with commissioning or field engineering efforts

  • Coordinate closely with other engineering disciplines, construction, procurement, and external partners to ensure work is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to Zachry quality standards
