Position Title: Senior Business Intelligence Developer

Location: Remote (preference for Mid-Atlantic region)

Position Status: Contract

About the Role:

We are looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Developer to lead the design and delivery of scalable, high?impact Power BI solutions. In this role, you will own the end?to?end development of semantic data models, dashboards, and reporting frameworks, while driving workstreams to successful completion and mentoring other developers.

Key Responsibilities

Power BI Development & Data Modeling

  • Lead the design, development, and testing of Power BI semantic layers (data models) to support enterprise reporting
  • Architect and deliver high?quality dashboards and reports aligned with business requirements and visualization standards
  • Develop wireframes and translate business needs into scalable BI solutions
  • Optimize models and reports for performance, usability, and maintainability

Technical Leadership & Delivery Execution

  • Lead workstreams and drive deliverables to completion, ensuring timelines, quality, and business outcomes are met
  • Mentor and guide BI developers; review and validate deliverables for accuracy, quality, and adherence to best practices
  • Establish and enforce Power BI standards, governance, and development best practices
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align on requirements, priorities, and delivery plans

Data Transformation & Engineering

  • Leverage Power Query and M language to perform advanced data transformation, integration, and shaping
  • Design robust data pipelines that ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of reporting data

Analytics, Visualization & Storytelling

  • Apply advanced data visualization techniques to deliver compelling and insightful dashboards
  • Translate complex data into clear narratives and actionable business insights
  • Select optimal visualization approaches based on business context and data structure

SQL & Data Architecture

  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and validation
  • Work with relational databases and data warehouse structures to design efficient and scalable data models

Power BI Service & Deployment

  • Manage Power BI Service including report publishing, dataset management, and automated refresh schedules
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data refresh, performance, and deployment issues
  • Support governance, security, and lifecycle management across BI assets

Required Qualifications

  • 58+ years of Power BI development experience including data modeling and dashboard design
  • 58+ years of SQL experience with advanced querying and optimization skills
  • 58+ years working in Azure environments and relational databases
  • Proven experience leading BI development efforts and mentoring team members

Technical Expertise

Advanced proficiency in:

  • Power BI semantic modeling and dataset design
  • DAX (complex measures, calculated columns, performance tuning)
  • Power Query and M language
  • SQL and relational database design concepts

Strong understanding of:

  • Data modeling (star/snowflake schemas)
  • Data warehousing and BI architecture best practices
  • Power BI Service administration and deployment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Azure Data Services (Data Factory, Synapse, Data Lake)
  • Familiarity with data governance, data quality frameworks, and enterprise BI standards
  • Experience delivering BI solutions in large, complex environments
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines for BI deployments
