The ideal candidate is a self-motivated DBA with strong SQL Server experience, a solid understanding of database security and performance optimization, and the ability to support mission-critical systems in a secure DoD environment.

Responsibilities

The Senior SQL Database Administrator will maintain the integrity, security, and availability of enterprise database systems while supporting ongoing operations, modernization, and sustainment activities. This position will also support database lifecycle activities, including installation, configuration, monitoring, upgrades, automation, and optimization of database systems. The DBA will work with SQL Server and related database technologies while helping improve system reliability, query performance, data integrity, and overall operational efficiency.

  • Administer, maintain, and support Microsoft SQL Server database environments.
  • Perform database patching, upgrades, backups, restores, and routine maintenance.
  • Support vulnerability remediation and IAVA compliance reporting.
  • Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize queries, indexes, and database structures.
  • Implement and manage database security, including access controls, permissions, roles, and encryption standards.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using T-SQL and PowerShell.
  • Support cloud-hosted database solutions using AWS services such as RDS, EC2, Lambda, and CloudFormation.
  • Assist with infrastructure automation using tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
  • Evaluate and support current and emerging DBMS tools, strategies, and technologies.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph.

  • Strong experience administering SQL Server databases.
  • Experience with database implementation, performance tuning, data modeling, and database security.
  • DoD 8570 compliance with IAT Level I.
  • Ability to work core hours of Monday-Friday, 10:00 AM-2:00 PM.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience with Oracle, Sybase, or other DBMS platforms.
  • Experience supporting AWS database environments.
  • Experience with SharePoint migrations.
  • Familiarity with Ansible, Terraform, or other automation tools.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex or ambiguous technical concepts.
