Job Description: Spring Term Groundskeeper & Custodian (part-time)
Background:Libertas is a public charter school serving the Frayser neighborhood in Memphis.Our mission is to be a school for human flourishing: cultivating minds, hands, and hearts for lives of wonder, work, and love.We offer a rich, rigorous, and personalized liberal arts education through the method of Dr. Maria Montessori, with an attachment village of wraparound family supports. Role information
- Role summary: create a safe, healthy, pleasant environment and instill pride in students, teachers, and families by caring for our property and serving as a role model of service.
- Schedule: part-time, hourly position; hours negotiable.
- Compensation: part-time, hourly position paid $14 to $18/hour depending on experience.
- Measures of success: timely, thorough completion of tasks; customer satisfaction; accurate record keeping as needed; performance evaluations based on observation.
- Reports to: Operations team.
Responsibilities and expectations
- Perform preventive maintenance and repair tasks, including but not limited to: Change light bulbs/ballasts; touch-up paint to walls, handrails, etc; tighten plumbing fixtures; remove debris from roof; spread salt/shovel snow; remove debris from downspouts and roof; provide slip protection on wet floors; assemble and move furniture, hang shelves; etc.
- Groundskeeping: Operate lawn mower, trimmer, sprayer, etc to maintain grass and plants. Water landscape, weed, plant, apply mulch, etc.
- Safety. Protect people, property, and equipment against loss or theft by implementing systems in place, such as locking up.
- Conserve energy: ensure lights/water/HVAC are shut off when not needed.
- Use tools, equipment, and cleaning chemicals safely, consistent with instructions. Adhere to safety measures for lifting, moving, and operating equipment.
- Keep equipment in good repair. Periodically inspect facility/equipment to detect, prevent injuries or damage. Monitor inventory and inform managers when items are needed.
- Communicate with manager about needs. Keep records. Complete work orders.
- Physical demands: Hearing/speaking to exchange information in person or via telephone; reading instructions; dexterity of hands to operate tools and equipment; bending, kneeling, stooping, sitting, walking, reaching overhead to store/retrieve materials.
- Other duties as assigned.
