Job Summary
This job performs therapeutic procedures such as wound care, crutch and gait training and instructs patients on exercise. Assists physician with evaluation, documentation, treatment, education, and care coordination for patients in clinic setting. Assists with surgery coordination, positioning, draping, and intraoperative patient care for surgeons. Perform research and quality improvement projects. Schedules appointments for diagnostic examinations and physical therapy based on physician's orders.

Education and Experience Requirements
Education Required - Bachelor's Degree in Allied Health Preferred - Master's Degree in Allied Health or Education
Work Experience Required - 3 years related experience in healthcare office in clinical or other related medical areas including evaluating and assessing patient injury.
Certifications and Licenses
Certifications Required - Certified Orthopedic Technologist (OTC) Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association Board of Certified Athletic Trainers Certification (BOCATC) Preferred - License in the state of practice Completion of SMA residency or equivalent program
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Excellent written, verbal and follow up skills required. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work well with a team. Ability to interact with potential patients, clinic staff, physicians, and departments in a professional manner. Collaborative working and team building skills. Ability to multi-task with high degree of attention to detail and bring tasks to completion. Must be able to comfortably communicate with patients.
Job Duties
Assists the physician(s) with research and quality improvement projects. Educates patients regarding treatment plans, pathophysiology, anatomy, and clinical decision making. Gathers patient's medical background and history of present illness, performs problem focused clinical examination, documents findings and treatment plans, and places orders in electronic medical record system under written order guidelines. Performs wound care, crutch and gait training, casting, splinting, or bracing, and instructs patients on exercise programs. Assists the physician in the clinic and operative setting (works independently and when required under the direct supervision of a physician). Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases.
