POSITION: Speech and Language Pathologist

LOCATION: Nonnewaug High School

START DATE: August 24, 2026 (New Faculty Orientation August 19th and 20th)

DEADLINE DATE: July 3, 2026

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

A speech and language pathologist (SLP) in Region 14 School District works as an integral part of a larger team serving all students in the district. The SLP brings their unique skills in the areas of targeted remediation, alternative approaches to instruction, expertise in issues concerning language development, and understanding of learning differences to bear in working to improve instructional outcomes for students. In delivering services, the SLP will focus on improving student performance and developing skills in students that will help them continue to maximize their potential. The SLP utilizes interventions driven by a well-founded (e.g., data based, research supported) understanding of what is best for the student.

EDUCATION TRAINING/REQUIREMENTS:

Meets full requirements for Speech and Language Certification for the State of Connecticut.

Successful teaching and administrative experience.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

Thorough understanding of best practices in speech and language remediation

Working knowledge of all applicable State and Federal statutes related to special education.

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services

WORK YEAR: 10 months

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • PPT participation, including review of progress and development of new goals and objectives
  • Completion of all applicable elements of Individualized Education Plans
  • Delivery of Tier 3 Intervention Services as directed by Student Consultation Team
  • Direct service to address language concerns, individual and small group
  • Inclusion based (classroom) interventions
  • Case Management of Students
  • Teacher Consultation
  • Parent Consultation and Education
  • Assessment of Language Functioning-Receptive/Expressive/Pragmatic
  • Facilitate Social Communication Groups
  • Student Progress Monitoring
  • Collaboration with Other Special Services Staff
