Summary:

Speech Pathologists are responsible for assessing, diagnosing, treating and helping to prevent swallowing and communication disorders in adults and children. Swallowing, speech and language disorders result from a variety of causes including autism, a cleft palate, Parkinson’s disease, developmental delay, hearing loss, brain injury and stroke.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assess and diagnose all individuals that participate in the center on the need for SLP services
  • Conduct culturally and linguistically relevant comprehensive assessment of language and communication, including social communication skills.
  • Assess for the need for and requirements for using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices as a mode of communication;
  • Work beside Clinical Directors and Consultants to ensure effective treatment for all learners
  • Develop treatment plans for speech and language services, including social language goals and goals for literacy development and for assisting the learner with self-regulatory and social interactive functions.
  • Treat learners and clients with recommended treatment plan
  • Provide parent training to families and persons who have an ASD diagnosis regarding communication-related issues.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience providing ABA services to children, preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology, required
  • ASHA Certification
  • Valid Michigan State driver’s license, current automobile insurance and means of transportation.
  • BCBSM and Medicaid Certification
  • Ability to provide care in a variety of settings and/or situations.
  • Demonstrate compassion, empathy, responsibility, and a positive attitude.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work well with members of a team.
  • Demonstrate compliance with accepted professional standards and practice; and
  • Demonstrate excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills.
