Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist Assistant

Reports to: Director of Special Services

Pay Grade: Professional PG 2 / 172 days

Minimum Salary: $54,417

Primary Purpose:

Plan and provide speech-language pathology services to students with speech, voice, fluency or language disorders and provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with their students' ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelors degree with emphasis in communicative disorders

Acquired at least 24 semester credit hours in speech-language pathology

and/or audiology with at least 18 hours in speech-language pathology, 3 hours in language

disorders, and 3 hours in speech disorders

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Has earned at least 25 hours of clinical observation

Earned at least 25 hours of clinical assisting experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Therapy

• Implement the treatment program or the Individual Education Plan designed by the licensed speech-language pathologist;
• Provide carry-over activities that are the therapeutically designed transfer of a newly acquired communication ability to other contexts and situations
• Collect data
• Maintain clinical records
• Prepare clinical materials

Assessment

• Administer routine tests, if assistant has been trained and the assessments are conducted under the direction of the supervisor

Consultation

• Participate with the licensed SLP in research projects, staff development, public relations programs, or similar activities as designated and supervised by the licensed SLP.

Student Management

• Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students.
• Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

Program Management

• Monitor continuing evaluation of speech-language pathology services and discuss the need for changes based on the findings with a licensed supervisor.
• Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.

Administration

• May represent special education and speech-language pathology at the ARD meetings with the following:
• Written documentation of approval from the supervisor.
• 3 years of experience as an assistant in the school setting
• Attend annual ARD meetings to discuss student progress
• Present IEP goals and objectives that have been developed by the supervisor and reviewed with the parent by the supervisor

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned;

moderate lifting and carrying. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with

positioning students with physical disabilities.
