    Job Description: Specimen Technician I (3rd Shift)

    Job Title: Specimen Technician I (SPT I) – 3rd Shift
    Location: Miramar, FL
    Duration: 2+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
    Shift Timings: Weekdays, 9:30 PM – 5:30 AM


    Job Summary

    The Specimen Technician I (SPT I) provides general support to the Specimen Processing Department in a fast-paced, production-driven laboratory environment. This role involves handling and processing clinical specimens with accuracy, while maintaining strict adherence to quality, safety, and compliance standards.

    The ideal candidate will have strong data entry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently under changing demands. This position is critical to ensuring timely and accurate laboratory operations, directly impacting customer satisfaction.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform specimen processing tasks including:
      • A-station processing
      • Pre-sorting specimens
      • Centrifugation and aliquoting
      • Imaging/microfilming
      • Pickup and delivery of specimens within the laboratory
    • Ensure accurate and timely data entry (minimum 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour)
    • Maintain a high level of accuracy and productivity in a production environment
    • Learn and identify various specimen types and corresponding test requirements
    • Comply with daily-changing regulations related to specimen handling and test ordering
    • Maintain a clean and organized work area
    • Follow all safety protocols while working in a biohazard environment
    • Communicate effectively with team members and other departments
    • Demonstrate flexibility to handle changing priorities and workloads

    Additional Requirements

    • Must be available for night shifts, with flexibility to work:
      • Weekends
      • Holidays
      • Overtime
      • On-call shifts (as required)

    Qualifications

    Education

    • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)

    Required Skills & Knowledge

    • Basic computer proficiency
    • Strong data entry and typing skills
    • Good organizational and time-management skills
    • Ability to adapt quickly to process and regulatory changes
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
    • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Prior laboratory or specimen processing experience
    • Knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures
    • Familiarity with medical terminology
    • Previous hospital or laboratory environment experience
    • Experience in a high-volume production environment
