Summary of Position: The role of the Instructional Coach is to build capacity, knowledge base, and skills so that professional and support staff can implement evidence-based practices, including but not limited to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behavior (VB) for the Analysis of Language strategies, at an independent and advanced level. The Specialized Instructional Coach serves in a lead consultative role to the professional and support staff at their designated site(s).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties:

  • Serve as a lead consultant to professional and support staff at designated site(s) by offering guidance, recommendations, and support to ensure the successful implementation of specialized instructional strategies.
  • Develop and implement strategies to build the capacity of professional and support staff by collaborating with staff to identify areas for skill development, creating plans for skill development, modeling skills, and monitoring and providing feedback to staff.
  • Provide individualized coaching and feedback to help staff improve their skills in implementing evidence-based practices.
  • Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions and adjustments to instructional approaches.
  • Provide written summaries/consult notes to the appropriate stakeholders based on classroom observation, consultation in quantitative data and in observational terms.
  • Conduct program site reviews to assess the strengths and needs of a program through reviewing documents, interviewing staff, and conducting direct observations.
  • Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and professional development activities focused on evidence-based practices, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behavior (VB).
  • Provide resource/reference materials as needed to administration, professional staff, instructional assistants, and parents on evidence-based practices.
  • Collaborate with other instructional coaches, educators, and specialists to foster a supportive and cohesive learning environment.
  • Present posters/ and/or lecture at district, state and national levels on effective approaches based on research and practice.
  • Pursue/explore and attend trainings that will allow further development of advanced skills related to implementation of effective instructional practices.
  • Train staff in implementing telepractice (direct training as well as on-going consultation and support).
  • Motivate teams to expand or further implement ABA techniques within classrooms, and program wide.
  • Support teams on difficult/ complex student cases
  • Assist teams developing skills related to documentation to include IEP writing, data collection, FBA/PBSP, and programing.
  • Assist administrators, and teachers in development of new and existing special education classrooms.

Qualifications: Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Special Education, or Communication Sciences and Disorders required, Masters preferred
  • PDE Instructional Certification required
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in implementation of ABA (Verbal behavior experience, preferred)
  • BCBA Certification or in process of completing requirements.

Professional Certifications:

  • BCBA Certification or in-process required
  • Active and valid PDE instructional certificate required

  • $64,626 to $97,419 - Instructional I Certification
  • $67,430 to $101,321 - Instructional II Certification
  • $71,933 to $110,645 - Masters Degree
  • $75,243 to $115,001 - Masters +15
  • $76,932 to $117,086 - Masters + 30

Salary 2026-27 School Year:

  • $68,371 to $98,703 - Instructional I Certification

  • $71,317 to $102,656 - Instructional II Certification

  • $76,288 to $112,102 - Masters Degree

  • $80,014 to $116,516 - Masters +15

  • $81,857 to $118,630 - Masters + 30
