Primary Purpose:
Provide leadership, coordinate and support the special education instructional programs for students with High Needs disabilities age 3-21 within the district.
Qualifications:
- Education/Certification: Master's Degree in Special Education
- Special Education Certification with required special education endorsements for assignments
- Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state and district special education regulations, policies, and procedures
- Ability to communicate special education concerns with parents, instructional staff, and school administrators
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated experience in programming services for students with high needs.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and provide staff development and other training activities
- Experience working with related service providers, mental health providers, and community based agencies
Experience:
- Minimum of three years experience in special education, preferably in programs for students with high needs.
- Proven experience in leadership position (campus or district level)
- Experience in providing educational programming to students with low incidence disabilities that has empirical support
- Experience in providing educational support for students with high needs disabilities exhibiting challenging behaviors
- Experience working as a collaborative team member
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional and Program Management
- Provide leadership, coordinate, and support ABLE, Lifeskills, and Matrix
- Provide leadership and assistance in the development and implementation of methodologies that have empirical support to use with students with high needs.
- Serve as a resource in staffings and ARD meetings, clarifying district guidelines and providing expertise in state and federal law regarding students with high needs.
- Analyze new laws and regulations pertaining to special education and provide training to appropriate personnel.
- Assist ARD committees in completing appropriate supplements specific to students with high needs.
- Conduct informal observations and provide suggestions for improving the classroom and increasing achievement in a positive and supportive manner.
- Work with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise district procedural guidelines based on Texas Education Agency annual revision of the state monitoring document.
- Work alongside the Director of Accountability to provide training and support for district personnel regarding state assessment.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences, meetings and staffing with parents, students, and staff concerning program and student issues.
- Work alongside campus administrators to support programming for students with high needs.
Training and Staff Development
- Identify staff development needs, develop and present training, and coach campus personnel to continually develop and enhance behavioral assessment and intervention Skills.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, statistical data, and other documents required.
