Job Title: Specialist, Mechanical Engineering Design Flexseal NozzleJob Code: 36866Job Location: Huntsville, ALJob Schedule: 9/80 – Employees work 9 out of every 14 days (total 80 hours worked) and have every other Friday off.Job DescriptionL3Harris Automotive and Aerospace division is seeking an intermediate-level mechanical design engineer to focus on the design of flexseal nozzles for solid propulsion systems. The role exercises moderate to substantial latitude in determining objectives and approaches, including delegation of work and review of work products.Essential FunctionsLead mechanical design activities for flexseal nozzles and solid propulsion systems and components.Independently develop design concepts, 3‑D models, and support detailed drawings for part manufacture.Conduct trade studies and develop component specifications and procedures as required.Interact with component analysis, manufacturing, project engineering, quality, and customer support groups.Plan and execute design tasks with limited general direction and work effectively within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment.Participate in shop floor and production hardware processing at suppliers and internally.Provide input to address nonconforming hardware, process planning, support production meetings, and work with supply chain to assure design requirements are met.Support engineering drawing and specification updates at configuration change boards.Develop test plans and conduct technical reviews.Assist in identifying and supporting risk reduction and environmental test requirements, including manufacturing pathfinders, subscale testing, and component and system qualification tests.Prepare material and support presentations for internal and external customers.Prepare engineering reports to support tolerance studies, analyses, failure investigations, and technical close‑out reports.QualificationsBachelor's degree and minimum of 4 years of directly related mechanical design experience, OR Graduate degree and minimum of 2 years of directly related mechanical design experience, OR In lieu of degree, minimum of 8 years of directly related mechanical design experience.Minimum of 1 year of flexseal nozzle design experience.Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is preferred.Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with CAD tools (CREO) and PLM systems (Windchill).Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Knowledge of solid propulsion system design and manufacturing methods.Experience with manufacturing methods is strongly desired.Knowledge and experience in strategic booster motors, tactical rocket motors, and vectoring nozzles.Experience in engineering drawing and GD&T application.Additional InformationSecurity clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.
