High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. College or continued education courses in management, public safety, or communications desirable. Experience in a related field preferred. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Ensures safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned routes.
Primary Responsibilities
Operates the SHSU Kat Tracks shuttle bus to transport students from the SHSU campus to HEB, Walmart, and Target. Follows assigned route and adheres to established schedules. Checks bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notifies supervisor of needed repairs. Reports all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures. Completes required reports. Keeps assigned bus clean and fueled. Inspects bus by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering to ensure bus can be operated safely before driving. Ensures proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crowbar, and reflector. Attends and completes required training program to maintain safety certification. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications
Requires driving and operating a University vehicle, therefore, a valid Texas driver license and driving record acceptable to the University's insurance carrier is required. Involves continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions. Working conditions involve moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes, working both indoors and outdoors. Attention and care is required in the performance of duties to prevent injury to self or others.
This is a part-time, hourly, non-benefits eligible position working 20 hours or less per week. Position will work during the Fall & Spring semesters. Schedules vary, with availability Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Position does not work on Sundays, holidays and during the months of June or July.
